About the artist
Stuart has spent all his life being involved in the whole art process teaching, painting and drawing. He has built up considerable skill and expertise as an illustrator and art teacher, teaching students of all ages.
Computers have become quite important in Stuart’s illustration work and teaching. He believes this new technology could play and ever increasing creative role in artists’ work. This is beginning to be recognized in the National Curriculum in schools now. As a fine art painter Stuart has become increasingly aware of the interplay or even contradiction of illustrative qualities in relation to abstract elements of form, light and dark, system of colour, style and painting technique.
Stuart gives regular talks and public lectures on perception and the use of abstract considerations in works of art also working for various organisations and schools teaching art, design and graphics.
As a fine artist Stuart’s interests lie in the area of impressionism bordering on abstract expressionism In which abstract values have interrelationships and systems which can work against meaning.
Being acutely aware of the necessary involvement of the viewer with their own preferences, likes and dislikes making mystery an important element of viewer participation, Stuart feels that often its what you don't say that makes the painting more interesting!
He regularly takes commissions on many kinds of subjects in any medium, from portraits to computer generated illustrations which have led to some very diverse and interesting work. Stuart uses any medium but is particularly fascinated by the spontaneous qualities of watercolour. He loves to paint pictures with ambiguous interpretations and delights in the viewer finding their own interpretation of abstract subjects.
Stuart feels art should be viewed on a personal level and is delighted if he can evoke different emotions in people from his artworks. Stuart exhibits regularly and is happy to accept commissions.
